Why Going To 'The Edge' Is Good For Us.

Hello everyone,

You might have heard the phrase "If you've not been to the edge, you've not lived."

Today I want to talk about 'the edge', and why it's essential to go there - at least some of the time - when we are looking to live our best life.

The Edge - sometimes aptly referrred to as 'The Leading Edge', serves us well in 3 ways;

One - There's opportunity for growth on the edge; it's where one thing ends and another thing starts.

Living our best life, being our best selves, is not a static state. It involves constant growth and change. While our ego mind seeks comfort and security, the Life in us is curious and full of adventure.

If we continually stay in our known, habitual ways, we are not able to grow.

I'm reminded of one of my favourite Khalil Gibran quotes,

"The lust for comfort kills the passion of the soul."

We are creators! We naturally seek out growth, and that means getting to the edge of all we know and moving into the unknown.

Two - There's undiscovered treasure on the edge; that's why our curious nature is drawn to it.

Why is there is so much treasure on the edge?... because it's an edge, it's not the well worn path of the multitudes. You could call the edge the 'road less travelled' (good name for a book :))

Who knows what you'll find as you venture out on your own path - when you choose to zig, while others zag. Your path is one that hasn't been discovered and picked over by anyone else before you.

You only have to walk to the edge of a high mountain and experience the treasure of a magnificent view to understand how much more we are opened up to on the edge, as opposed to staying low and secure on the plains.

Three - There's not a lot of space to move on the edge! ... which is a good thing. The edge itself is not a place we want to stay at, or live on. The edge is a line, often a thin line; a crossing over from one thing to another.

Which means when we get to the edge, we are forced to make a decision, to either move forward to the unknown, or go back to the comfort of the known. We know we don't want to stay where we are, ... on the edge.

We all experience edges in life; there will always be inevitable endings and new beginnings.

If we are serious about living our best life, we will also choose some of our edges.

Choose to take the opportunity for growth, to go in search of undiscovered treasures, and to make decisions which will catapult you into the unknown,...that is where the magic happens!

I look forward to hearing from you about some of your 'edges' and how you've grown from them.

With love

Will you allow it?
Can you remember being so excited as a child that you could barely sit still? That feeling of anticipation — it coloured everything around you, and you felt the lift inside you. As adults, it happens too… though perhaps, like me, you experience it a little differently now. This week, I had a restlessness I initially found quite annoying. I couldn’t seem to focus… but I didn’t feel like resting ...
When life says no
Life really does happen to reveal us to ourselves. Today I had plans of driving down the coast to see a friend, and then sitting amongst nature and writing an inspired letter to you all. It’s perfect weather…cool, overcast, rain…we’re in the last month of Autumn. I love driving the hills route with loads of trees, winding narrow roads and the peacefulness away from the city. I was really lookin...
Be You. To the Full
Have you ever experienced the raw joy expressed by a child —the kind that simply steals your heart? I find myself so drawn to it. Captivated by it. I experienced it again this week with one of my grandchildren. They had an idea… and shared it with such enthusiasm. "Do you like to drive a red car, Meemah?" Of course I replied, “Yes — absolutely — a red car sounds great!” Looking so pleased with...
